NITRATE : Chromotropic Method

Range:  0  –  30  mg/L ( N- NO3 )

PRINCIPLE

The automated procedure for the determination of Nitrate in water and waste-water depends on the reaction of nitration of chromotropic acid  in condition of high acidity. Two moles of NO3  react with one mole  of chromotropic acid to form a yellow reaction product .  Antimony ( Sb) is add to the first reagent to masks interference of chloride.

The color intensity is measured at 450 nm
